Latest Updates from Our Project:

Another Stretch Goal down and a LIVE EVENT coming up
about 3 years ago – Fri, Mar 19, 2021 at 05:52:55 AM

Hello White Ashians/ Glarien fans,

We ran out of the capacity to be blown away about three updates ago.  If we did still have that ability, we'd be spending the afternoon picking our collective jaws up off the floor.  The insane pace of backers both returning and new, that continue to flood to the Glarien campaign is truly special.  We're on pace to be one of the most backed single-issue (non-trade) comic book kickstarters of all time.  So again, thank you so much.

We've blown past our $52,000 Stretch Goal #8, Turn Me Around.  All backers will get an exclusive two-sided print of Glarien and Rachel.  Romina will draw the Rachel print after she finishes the issue.  But for Glarien, we wanted to give you all a taste of Romina's first foray into the White Ash universe.

About two years ago, I (Charlie) commissioned Romina to do an exclusive variant cover for White Ash #3.

Romina's White Ash 03 variant cover/ the first time she drew Glarien.

When I got this piece back, I knew I wanted to find more ways to get her involved in the White Universe. And this campaign has proven she's the perfect fit for Glarien. But as that cover is just about out of print (only 9 copies remain) I wanted all of you to be able to have a copy of it. This amazing illustration is what will be on the front (or depending on how you hold it, back) of the print.

However, if any of you would like an actual copy of that issue, I will be giving away a copy of White Ash #3 (with the Moranelli variant cover) to a backer who attends this live event for Wizard World that I'll be participating in this Friday.

It's going to be so much fun.  We'll be live for an hour or so starting on Friday at 4pm PT/7pm ET, and you can join us for FREE by clicking here.

This is an amazing group of creators who I have been lucky to get to know in real life (not just virtually).  They're entertaining, knowledgeable, AND  will also be giving away FREE STUFF.

What kind of free stuff?  You'll have to tune in to find out.  HOWEVER...

Anyone who backs all six campaigns will receive an incredibly rare print of all our characters from artist Michael Watson.

This will be available as a digital print to all digital backers, AND as a physical print for all physical backers.

This kind of cross-campaign promotion isn't something I usually do.  But all five of these creators have a track record of delivering quality.  But you can check for yourself.  I've shared a couple of these campaigns before, but here there are as one amazing group.  Starting with...

Chronicles of the Immortal Swordsmen #1

For those of you who backed my campaign for The Adept last year, CIS is set in the same universe.  And, if things continue to go well, will include a short The Adept/CIS cross-over story drawn by YiShan Li (artist of The Adept).  I love building stories with the people over at Immortal Studios.  This is another book that has a special feel to it. So CHECK IT OUT.

The Dancer #1 - A Psychological Martial Arts Thriller

Kat Calamia just launched this project on Tuesday.  But I was fortunate enough to read this book a couple of months ago. It's got a Black Swan meets Electra Assassin kinda vibe.  The colorist that Kat has brought on has given the book even more life.  I strongly recommend you TAKE A LOOK.

Ichabod Jones Volume 1-3: A Lovecraftian dark-fantasy comic

One of the great things about living in Los Angeles is how vibrant the independent comic book community is here. They're incredibly welcoming to newcomers, ready to show them the ropes of this crazy business.  Russel Nohelty was one of the first creators that I met when I began this journey, quick to pass on invaluable convention and kickstarter tips. And when Russel talks you should listen, because he's been incredibly successful.   I bring that up because he's written a lot of books, both comics and prose.  But with all that success, you can tell that Ichabod is his baby.  And he loves that baby very much.

Russel's breakdown for the book is -- Ichabod Jones is about a mental patient that escapes an asylum and becomes a monster hunter during the Apocalypse, but doesn't know if he's killing monsters, humans, or if it's all in his head the whole time.

To me, it's clear that Ichabod lives in Russel's head the whole time and that he's putting down every fascinating moment on paper. This is the third graphic novel in the series.  Books on Kickstarter rarely get a sequel, let alone a trilogy.  Take a look at what the fuss is about.  Just don't wake Russel's baby.

IMPOSSIBLE 2: IMPOSSIBLE JONES & HOLLY DAZE TEAM-UP!

I mentioned Impossible Jones when it launched last week.  Since then it has destroyed its funding goal and blown up on Kickstarter.  What I said then was KARL'S quick pitch is...  a thief gets powers, is mistaken for a superhero -- and runs with it.

And that MY quick pitch is... Karl Kesel wrote the darn thing, so go back it already-- if you like witty banter, great characters and a masterclass in quality comic making.

This is even more true now than it was a week ago.  So if you already weren't one of the people who rushed to back this, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Excellence Book One Deluxe Hardcover

Last, but certainly not least is Excellence.  It takes a bit of swagger to name your book Excellence... and then pull it off.

Excellence, by Khary Randolph, Brandon Thomas, Emilio Lopez, Deron Bennett, is an action-fantasy comic about a secret society of Black magicians who protect the world with unseen hands. Despite their great powers, they are forbidden from using them to protect and defend their own people.

This 296 page hardcover book is being published by Skybound, so you know they'll deliver the quality. So check it out and unlock that print.

Have a great week everyone, and I hope to see you all on Friday.

Best,

Charlie and the rest of Team Ash, Conor, Fin and Romina

New OG Collector's Tier released
about 3 years ago – Wed, Mar 17, 2021 at 06:06:41 AM

Hello White Ashians/ Glarien fans.

We hope you're all having an incredible weekend.  This campaign continues to blow away all our expectations.  So much so, that we're just about out of our Hardcovers we had allotted for this campaign. (We will have a couple available post-campaign in backerkit, but only a couple.) So, because we want to make sure there are ways for new backers to catch up with what we've done before, we're breaking open the vault and releasing a small number of the just about gone inventory (in some cases, less than 15 copies) we have remaining of the original White Ash Kickstarter 1-5 floppies in a new high-end catch up tier.  These books are all first prints (With the exception of White Ash #1, that's low-print run 2nd print featuring the Hughes variant cover) and for most of them, this is the last time they will be offered as part of a kickstarter.

We wanted to alert you to the new tier, to give those of you who had already backed our campaign first crack at it. Below, you can see the White Ash covers included in the package.

This tier will also include ALL SIX Glarien Covers.

But thank you again for all the support.  We know not everyone on kickstarter has such an incredible group of people behind them.  Which is why we love to show you, the most incredible group of backers, a few other projects here and there.  Today we have three horrifically wonderful titles that we think you might like.

The first comes from Jaymie Dylan who is live with True Love Inc: A Dangerous Women Horror Comic

Jaymie's book is the story of Mandi-9, a robot-sex worker who gains sentience through an electric shock caused by dropping her research tablet. This book is definitely for mature readers.  But it's also definitely charming with an adorable art style.  So take a look and see if you can resist Mandi's charm.

Moving to a book that's much safer to leave lying on your couch if you have kids in the house, is James Powell's House of Fear: Rubber & Glue

James manages to walk an incredible line with his books in that they're equally horrifying (and appropriate) for all ages.  It's quite a trick and well worth checking out how James pulls it off.

And our final horror book for this Spooky Saturday is Haunting from Phillip Falco.

Phil's book is about a teenager, which for those of us with kids, we know how horrifying that can be. But this one is even scarier as he has the ability to raise the dead.  Phil is closing in on his funding goal.  Let's give him a shock and help him get there this weekend.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.  We'll be back early next week with an update about an event next Friday...

Best from White Ash,

Charlie, Conor, Fin and Romina.

New Glarien Cover by Ivan Tao UNLOCKED
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 15, 2021 at 04:03:27 PM

Hello White Ashians/ Glarien fans,

We have just past Stretch Goal #6 and unlocked a new cover/ reward tier.

This beauty by Ivan Tao is now available.

Ivan Tao Variant Cover

This cover will be included in the Pick Two Cover selections and will Automatically come as part of the All Five Covers Tier (which technically, should be renamed All Six, but Kickstarter won't let us do that). It also as been added as a limited tier option, and a small number will be available post-campaign as add-ons in Backerkit (if you prefer to do it that way).

In addition, we're adding Mystery Stretch Goal #7 which will unlock if we hit $52,000 (I really can't believe I'm writing that number).

Thank you again for all the incredible support.  We really couldn't do it without you. Kickstarter is such an incredible community, a place where fans and creators can interact.  It's also a place where creators can get to know each other.  One of my favorite people I've met since I embarked on this Kickstarter journey is Karl Kesel. Karl's been making great comics since the 90's.  (I bought many of his Superboy books back in the day).  But the last couple of years, he's made the move to Kickstarter and started a whole new universe.  Yesterday, he launched the latest book in his Impossible Jones series.

Karl's quick pitch is...  a thief gets powers, is mistaken for a superhero -- and runs with it.

Mine is... Karl Kesel wrote the darn thing, so go back it already-- if you like witty banter, great characters and a masterclass in quality comic making.

As you can tell, I'm hooked and I think you will be too if you check it out.

Thanks again, everyone.  We'll be back really soon with an update about a fun event for you all that will be hosted by Wizard World.

Best,

Charlie and the rest of Team Ash (Conor, Fin and Romina)

More Stretch Goals Smashed
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 15, 2021 at 09:45:12 AM

Hello White Ash/ Glarien fans,

This campaign is a rocket that just keeps going up and it’s all thanks to you. Since the last update we’ve blown through two more stretch goals.

Stretch Goal #5 Cover Upgrade, has been UNLOCKED. Every copy of the Romina Moranelli cover will now have a UV Spot Finish added.

We’ve also UNLOCKED Stretch Goal #6 Get To Know Us Faster. That means that we’re going to upgrade anyone who backed at one of our physical catch-up tiers and we will be mailing out your hardcovers (or single issue catch-up packs) as soon as we have all the surveys in.

That way, you can dive into the White Ash Universe and have something to read while we're getting Glarien ready for print. NOTE: This means if you backed at a catch-up level, you will now receive TWO packages from us.

And since we’ve unlocked #6, that means it’s time to reveal…

Stretch Goal #7, Who Wants Another Cover? That’s right, if we can hit $46,000 we’ll be revealing another exclusive cover for our backers.   This cover will be available in its own tier, and as a choice from our pick two tier. If you backed at a tier where you were scheduled to receive all five covers, you’ll now receive ALL SIX COVERS.

We’re really excited about this one and are looking forward to being able to show it to all of you.

And if we hit #7… then just Wow. It looks like we may have to come up with some more stretch goals for you. Which we’re thrilled to be able to do. So thank you again. But before we leave you for the weekend, we did want to point you to a couple of fun projects we think you might enjoy.

The first is from Curtis Glow who does some of the most beautiful books on Kickstarter. His latest, Slightly Exaggerated, is wrapping up early next week.

I think you’ll find there’s a lot in this book for Glarien fans to like. So I strongly recommend you CHECK IT OUT.

In a very similar vein, Yumi is another book featuring a bad-ass lady with a sword that I think Glarien fans could rally behind.

Written by Doug Wagner with Art by Hoyt Silva, Yumi is a book with an amazing pedigree. And if that doesn’t convince you, they have a 28 page preview of the book you can download. I recommend you go check that out and try not to be entranced. But hurry, they also only have 5 days left.

And the last of the books that I wanted to mention, is one that’s not quite yet on Kickstarter. Karl Kesel just dropped the sign up link for his latest Impossible Jones book.

Karl has been making great comics since the 90’s when he was on Superboy. If you don’t know his work, now is the time to jump on board. This book will fun with a capital F. We’re not exactly sure what that means other than it’s going to be great. So click that link.

And really, have a fabulous weekend everyone.

Charlie, Conor, Fin and Romina

Just created a new Hardcover tier with a Chapter 05 Variant Cover by Sweeney Boo
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 15, 2021 at 09:45:08 AM

Hi White Ashians/ Glarien fans,

This campaign continues to astound us.  We just sold out of our last of the Hardcover catch-up reward.  And while we have a few hardcovers left, we're super low now (thank you) on our standard cover for White Ash: Chapter Five.

So I just added a new version of the tier featuring one of our variants for Chapter Five.  This one by Sweeney Boo.  Here's the cover --

We will have a couple of these available post campaign (as an add on)  But if any of you would prefer to change to it or had been too late to grab a Hardcover, I wanted to give those of you who had already backed, first chance at it.

The price for this tier is slightly more expensive (than the standard one) as the Boo variant had a print run of only 300.

Thank you all again for continuing to make this such an incredible campaign.

Happy Saturday.

Charlie
